Traffic Impacts

Beginning Monday, March 27, 2017, the intersection of Fields-Ertel Road and Columbia/Lebanon Road will be closed for 14 weeks, weather permitting. The closure is for the construction of a single-lane roundabout at the intersection.

The detour for the closure will utilize Rich Road, Davis Road, Columbia Road, Montgomery Road, Union-Cemetery Road, Lebanon Road and Loveland Avenue.

Project Information:

A new single-lane roundabout will be constructed at the intersection of Fields-Ertel Road and Columbia Road (recognized as Lebanon Road in Hamilton County). Drivers will enter the roundabout and travel counterclockwise around a center island. Entering traffic will yield to vehicles that are already circulating the roundabout.

Pavement work also will be done on the portion of roadway in Hamilton County, and at the intersection of Fields-Ertel and Rich Road.

The Warren County Engineer’s Office and the Hamilton County Engineer’s Office are partnering on this project. Utility companies, including water, electric, and gas, are updating and moving their systems in advance of construction of the roundabout, which will begin in the spring of 2017.

Project Benefits:

The intersection of Fields-Ertel Road and Columbia Road (Lebanon Road in Hamilton County) is frequently congested. To improve safety and travel through this intersection, a single-lane roundabout will be built that will include a pedestrian sidewalk to the south and continuing into Symmes Township.

This roundabout design is recognized as an “urban” roundabout, meaning that the roundabout itself is smaller and therefore has less impact to surrounding properties than a more traditional roundabout that would require more space to be built. Because this intersection carries primarily residential traffic, but still experiences periodic delays, planners concluded that a continuous flow roundabout rather than traffic signal modifications
