Construction Info: Western Row Road & I-71 Interchange Improvements

This project will provide a new full movement interchange with northbound on- and off-ramps, as well as southbound on- and off-ramps, which will increase accessibility.

We wanted to share with you the following statement that was released by our partners at the Ohio Department of Transportation:

February 22, 2017

In the next few weeks ODOT will begin a nearly $21 million project to convert the existing Interstate 71 and Western Row Road (I-71/WRR) interchange into a full interchange with new ramps and auxiliary lanes.

The first phase of this I-71/WRR project will begin on Monday, February 27. This work includes clearing trees and brush along I-71 shown in the photo included in this email. This clearing must be completed prior to April so as not to negatively impact the Indiana Bat. During this time there will also be various utility relocations.

Major construction on this two-year project will start in early May. Most of this work will occur at night between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. and will be very noisy. Also over the next two years various lane restrictions on I-71, Western Row Road and Kings Island Drive will be required. Media/traffic advisories will be distributed alerting the media and public of when these restrictions will be required.

If you would to like receive regular email updates regarding the I-71/WRR project please notify us via d08.pio@dot.ohio.gov to have your email address included on our distribution listing. If you do not have computer access or have additional questions regarding the project please contact ODOT Communications Manager Brian Cunningham (513) 933-6517.

Construction Info: Columbia Road Relocation

This project will support better traffic flow on Western Row Road by relocating Columbia Road and making improvements the northbound I-71 off ramp at Western Row.

Closure Update: May 17, 2017 – Western Row Road Closure Extended One Week

The Warren County Transportation Improvement District (WCTID) has announced that the full closure currently in place on Western Row Road will be extended for one week through Friday, June 9, 2017, weather permitting.

The location of the closure is from just east of the northbound I-71 exit ramp between Columbia Road and where the road takes a 90-degree bend (near the Duke Energy substation). A detour route that uses Columbia Road to Socialville-Fosters Road to Western Row Road remains in place and is marked by signage throughout the area.

Inclement weather over the course of the closure period as well as an adjustment to the roadway construction work that will provide for improved safety and better traffic flow along Western Row Road and Columbia Road has necessitated the extension of the closure period.

April 12, 2017:

The Warren County Transportation Improvement District (WCTID) has announced that a full closure on Western Row Road will be put into place beginning Tuesday, April 18, 2017. The closure is expected to be in place until Friday, June 2, 2017, weather permitting.

The location of the closure is from just east of the northbound I-71 exit ramp between Columbia Road and where the road takes a 90-degree bend (near the Duke Energy substation).

During construction, Western Row Road will remain open to local access only, for properties located within the project area. Specifically, Western Row Road will remain open to 0.25 mile east of Columbia Road to address 3033/2995, and to Northgate Drive 1.0 mile north of Socialville-Fosters Road. Local traffic will be maintained within the closed portion of the Western Row Road to addresses 2946, 2988, and 2994 Western Row Road with access open to/from these residences through the south barricades (toward Socialville-Fosters).

A detour route that uses Columbia Road to Socialville-Fosters Road to Western Row Road will be put into place and marked by signage throughout the area.

This closure is part of the Columbia Road Relocation project, which will support better traffic flow on Western Row Road by relocating Columbia Road and making improvements to the northbound I-71 off-ramp at Western Row Road.

You can learn more about this work and view a video that provides additional information about this project on our website at ImagineWesternRow.com.

As always, we appreciate your patience during construction and ask drivers to stay alert, slow down in active work zones and eliminate distractions.

Construction Info: Fields-Ertel Road Westbound Right Turn Lane

A westbound right turn lane will be built for traffic turning onto NB 71, as well as a new NB lane on Gregory Rd from Governor’s Way to Fields-Ertel.

April 19, 2017:

Various lane closures will be needed to support a new pattern of traffic in the Fields-Ertel & Mason-Montgomery Road intersection area, where our partners at the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) continue work to improve safety and the flow of traffic.

Beginning at 9 p.m., Wednesday, April 19, lane closures will be in place at the Fields-Ertel & Mason-Montgomery Road intersection, ending just east of the Fields-Ertel Road & Royal Point Drive intersection.

Lane closures will be complete by 6 a.m. the following day, but if necessary, these lane closures will be in effect at the same time Thursday, April 20. Traffic will be maintained with flaggers.

The new traffic pattern will be two through lanes on east and westbound Fields-Ertel Road and one lane in each direction on Gregory Road. This pattern will be in effect until approximately the end of June.

All work is contingent upon weather. Arrow boards and/or signs will be in place to alert motorists of the work zone and lane closures.

To help ensure the safety of construction workers as well as the traveling public, motorists should remain alert, reduce their speed and watch for stopped traffic while passing through the work zone.
